Nudes

In my mind’s eye, what two lovers may look like if viewed from above.

During a complete redo of my art room, I came across a nude sketch on paper done several years ago that I really like. The line is lovely and I like the composition and variations in the ink tones. I think I’ll use it as the starter for one or two new finished pieces. It’s been too long since I’ve done a good nude. No surprise, it’s a self-portrait.

My brother-in-law Milo once asked me when I was going to draw something other than nudes, like trains maybe. Hey, I do draw other things! Most of my art in my primary illustration style is as far removed from naked bodies as you can get. Well, maybe that’s not strictly true. But he was right. I am drawn to the nude form, particularly female. There are many reasons, some that are a little too slippery for words. Part of it is self-discovery, part of it is trying to unlock the infinite mystery of the form, and part of it is the sheer sensual pleasure of putting those curves and slopes and valleys onto paper.
